Richard Ancheta specializes in realistic fine art
charcoal portraits. Each charcoal portrait takes 15-20 hours to
complete and is hand drawn on Arches
watercolor paper. Charcoal artworks are created using acid
free archival materials and is sprayed with fixative gloss varnish
to ensure smudging and fading does not occur over time.
Like the traditional painting methods, charcoal pencils
and sticks are powdered and applied with different kinds of brushes,
stamps and cork sticks.
The portrait is base on the photographs and transferred
in art paper in an outline pencil sketch, however the goal is
not to imitate the reference material used but to obtain a truthful
and accurate depiction of model. The artist will rendered different
kinds of techniques and will capture the depth of shades and shadows,
likeness, sharpening the every details of the face - including
the pores of the skin and small hairs in the eyebrows and side
burn.
Time frames for completion will vary depending upon
the details of portraits and the complexity of the subject.
Before the spraying of the varnish to the portrait,
it wil be commented by the artist itself and the model, checking
the areas of details, touchups and adjustments will be the last
approach in perfecting the image.
Professional framing is required to preserve the artworks
from dirts and humidity.
