MURAL PAINTING - Trompe L'Oeil
Pyramid & Sphinx - Egyptian Ruins Mural Painting by Richard Ancheta, Montreal
The decoration theme is an ancient Egyptian ruins, this trompe l'oeil mural was installed in a room for which the collection of Egyptian antiquities was displayed. The owner is an antique collector and he wants his artifacts collection displayed with an aura of a trompe l'oeil painting that gives the mode and styles of the dry scenery of the desert. The wall has a door and was located in the left bigger column and was hidden because of its trompe l'oeil effect. Creating the layout of this design was simplified into six elements, the client choose the gigantic statue of King Rameses II, the great pyramid in the middle of the horizon, the wall and column adorned with Cleopatra, Egyptian sculptures and hieroglyphics, the replica of sphinx facing the pyramid, columns adored with statues of mummies and steps illusion pointing the direction towards the pyramid as the vanishing point.
Ancient Egyptian art refers to the style of painting, sculpture, crafts and architecture developed by the civilization in the lower Nile Valley from 5000 BC to 300 AD.

Ancient Egyptian art was expressed in paintings and sculptures & was both highly stylized and symbolic. Much of the surviving art comes from tombs and monuments and thus there is an emphasis on life after death and the preservation of knowledge of the past.
In a more narrow sense, Ancient Egyptian art refers to the canonical 2nd and 3rd Dynasty art developed in Egypt from 3000 BC and used until the 3rd century.
Most elements of Egyptian art remained remarkably stable over that 3000 year period without strong outside influence. The same basic conventions and quality of observation started at a high level and remained near that level over the period.
